I cannot recommend this book to any IC patient and am returning the book to amazon.com. I am honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews of this book "Solving the Interstitial Cystitis Puzzle: A Guide to Natural Healing". It contains many questionable medical practices: including "allergy testing" foods by holding the test food in one hand, holding out the other arm & seeing if someone can push it down to show "muscle weakness" caused by the allergenic food, coffee enemas, citrus flavored laxatives, and recommendation of foods (tomato, lemon, lemonade, grapefruit juice, soy, cayenne pepper, fruit juices, vitamins C & B) known to actually provoke or worsen IC symptoms.
I applaud Ms. People who suffer from IC need information that yields results and gives them confidence to move forward. After months of bouncing between doctors who were unable to help me, Amrit's book has given me a systematic way of dealing with interstitial cystitis in a holistic way. Willis for taking the time to gather this information which quotes many medical experts and holistic practitioners. This book does just that. I have read another book on healing from IC, but this book is much more detailed and specific about the how's and why's. Examples include her tables on acid-forming and alkaline-forming foods, and food sources for minerals, her detailed information about herbs and supplements, and explanation of how to do muscle response testing.
My only question for Amrit Willis is: When can we hope for a revised edition or a new book about IC. I am forming a Colorado Springs based IC support group next month and Amrit's book is at the top of my list of recommendations for anyone newly diagnosed with IC, or for anyone suffering from IC who is fed up with conventional treatments. I purchased "Solving the Interstitial Cystitis Puzzle" three years while doing as much research as I could in order to find relief from the severe IC symptoms that I had been suffering since 2004. I had known for quite some time that approaching IC as a full body disease and not simply as a bladder disease was probably a better explanation for IC, and this book confirmed my suspicions, as well as provided well researched and well thought out information about how to alkaline your body in order to prevent chronic inflammation and therefore help eliminate the pain from IC.
Much is diet, and this book will help you learn what foods can heal your body. We have different reasons in our body for causing the symptoms. This book helps sort them out. This book explains IC very well. If you are serious about healing and willing to make a huge lifestyle change with diet, then buy this book. There is no magic pill or easy button to push with IC. We do have control in healing this, but it takes hard work. For everyone, IC is different.
I wish I could contact her to get me started. I think it is a little involved and was overwhelmed. But, I would not want this to prevent anyone from ordering the book. I was very disappointed because I bought one book and it said Amrit took phone consults. I then bought another book to send to someone, and tried to get a phone consult, but her website said she wasn't taking any more clients.
